Thayer Kyusan Case, LCSW-R, Managing Director, Clinical Supervisor, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner

Thayer Kyusan Case (he/him) LCSW, SEP is a trauma-focused clinician, leadership coach and Managing Director and Owner of Maverick Psychotherapy Group. He brings a unique blend of expertise across the lifespan—from play therapy to hospice care to crisis stabilization —as a clinician, somatic practitioner, spiritual practitioner, clinical supervisor and consultant with over twenty-five years of experience.

The vision of MPG is to provide broad access to depth oriented, trauma informed, intersectionality-sensitive treatment to clients, as well as extensive training and professional development—in the same vein—to career clinicians. He is proud that MPG stands out as a beacon of accessibility, now serving 1200 clients in New York state and has been recognized as an Inc. 5000 company for its remarkable growth.

Thayer is also a somatically informed leadership coach, having received his training and certification from Brown University/ACT. He works with business leaders, executives, and other individuals working toward an embodied leadership stance. In addition to training, supervising, and coaching clinicians in his group practice, Thayer has also offered numerous workshops and trainings with not-for-profits, corporations, combat sports clubs, and schools. Thayer was also part of the Somatic Experiencing International working group on Crisis Stabilization and Safety, which also drew on his experiences as an EMT in Brooklyn, NY. He has presented internationally on this topic.

Thayer’s psycho-spiritual-somatic approach to psychotherapy and psychotherapy supervision/training is deeply rooted in Somatic Experiencing, relational emotionally folcused psychotherapy, and his nearly 30 years of Zen Buddhist practice and training. Thayer has expertise in working across the lifespan, identities, professions and cultures with children (as a play therapist), adolescents, adults, couples, families and groups. Thayer has worked with hundreds of individuals suffering from PTSD, developmental trauma, trauma from oppressive forces, sexual abuse, car accidents, falls, sports injuries, military trauma, natural disasters, medical trauma and syndromes, near-death experiences, and the everyday suffering of living a human life.

Thayer lives in the Catskill Mountains of New York with his wife, two standard poodles and college age daughter (when she’s home!). He loves spending time with his family and friends, being in the woods, studying archetypes in sci-fi, fantasy, and comics (see @traumanerds on IG), and practicing and competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
